In India also Tourism industry has emerged as a sunrise Industry contributing to 7% of its GDP and employing directly more than 20 million people which is expected to touch more than 40 million by 2019.
The demand for travel and tourism in India is expected to grow by 8.2 per cent between 2010 and 2019 and will place India at the third position in the world with employment opportunities for more than 40 Millions. Tourism is one of the world’s most rapidly growing industries and it has emerged as a fastest growing sector in the terms of employment and income generation which is expected to contribute nearly 10% of the world- economy .In India also Tourism industry has emerged as a sunrise Industry contributing to 7% of its GDP and employing directly more than 20 million people( which is expected to touch more than 40 million by 2019) with a tremendous growth prospect in future years to come. The huge surge in both business and leisure travel by both foreign and domestic tourists has put the Industry on a roll .India with diverse landscape and abundance of natural beauty , offers huge scope for various theme based travel like adventure tourism, heritage tourism, eco tourism, wellness tourism, pilgrimage tourism wild life tourism etc.
In order to sustain the aforesaid growth prospect, Indian tourism industry requires a huge number of professionally qualified personnel who is conversant with various aspects and service areas of the Industry and the students equipped with a degree of Travel and Tourism Management will have a huge scope to play a major role for the betterment of the Industry and their carrier as well.
A student undergoing bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management course are required to study various subjects like tourism principles , marketing, tourism geography, tour operations, tourism economics ,environment and ecology, tourism planning and policy, legal and ethical issues in tourism etc. besides hand on training with tour operators.
